Inspection of electrical equipment
Many electrical equipment defects can be found during a formal visual inspection. Potential hazards arise due to the way in which a piece of equipment is used or misused. For example electrical equipment may be prone to being dropped or a piece of moveable equipment with a long mains lead may be damaged as the equipment is moved around(ex. vacuum cleaners). Potential hazards such as enclosure damage, damage to the mains flex, signs of overheating, incorrectly fitted mains plugs, incorrect fuses etc, can be identified by a thorough visual inspection.

What is your electrical Inspection process?
Electrical Equipment testing includes a thorough visual inspection of the Plug to ensure that it is wired correctly, that the fuse present is the correct rating for the equipment, that all connection screws are tightened, that the flex gripper is present and secures the flex tightly, that the plug top is screwed back tightly and securely.
A full inspection of the entire length of the equipment flex. Checking for any defects such as lumps and soft spots within the cable. Also checking for any tears or splits in the cable length. Electrical tape along the length of the cable will often be masking faults in the cable. This is always removed to investigate.
Only once a thorough visual inspection is carried out will the electrical equipment be plugged in to the test equipment. A series of tests will then be run on the equipment to ensure it is electrically safe. These tests are recorded and records kept as proof of your efforts to minimise risk.
These tests are carried out in accordance with the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and the 5th Edition of the IET Code Of Practice for the In-service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment published in September 2020.

Who can perform inspections and testing?
Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment must be carried out by a competent person or qualified experienced PAT tester. The person carrying out the inspection and testing much use a calibrated PAT testing machine. Details of the inspection and testing are to be logged and kept as proof of the duty holder, Manager or owners compliance to the regulations relating to electrical equipment.
A regular programme of inspection and testing of electrical equipment or PAT testing is an important part of any Health & Safety Policy.

We trained in PAT testing over twenty years ago and have been working for such companies as British Red Cross and Stoke on Trent Council up until 2010 when the business was set up.
The business was established based in Liverpool in 2012 where it has grown into a very successful and reputable business. The business Head Office is now in Liverpool and we have grown to be able to cover the North West region.
